BM - Work 1

"Sounds complicated", I said.

"Yes, it is," replied the programmer who works on the mainframe. "Not only do we still have to use Cobol version 1, which is very hard to find people who can work with it, but quite a bit of our code calls Assembler programs from the Cobol.  Those Assembler programs calculate things like pricing."

"Gosh, that's amazing," I said.

"Yes, it is," he said.  "The person who created those Assembler programs back in the 1950's still works here maintaining them.  He's 70 years old.  He has been working here since the 1950's when the owner bought the first mainframe."

"Gee. That's incredible," I said.

"Yes, it is," he said.  

I wonder what will happen when that 70 year old guy retires?
